While I was watching T.V. this weekend, I happened upon a "Fiji Water" commercial. It started off with angel-like singing, and then proceeded to tell me that Figi Water was "Nature's gift to us", to thank us for "leaving it completely untouched". Then it ended by saying that this water was
"bottled at the source". After talking about irony this week, I recognized it almost instantly.
When the commercial mentions that this water is nature's gift to us, for leaving it untouched, it is ironic because in order to get the water, workers and/or machinery have to get into Mount Fiji (Where this water is taken from), and "touch" it, or bottle the water, for our enjoyment. Nature shouldn't be giving us anything, because all we do is take from it. We cut down its trees, kill its wildlife, and take its water.
The second part, their water being " bottled at the source, adds to the irony of the water being "completely untouched". Like I have said above, how can water be untouched, and, bottled at the source? This example of paradox is interesting and I wonder how this commercial even got through editing. Anyone could see that these are contradictory. It just makes the company sound stupid and uneducated, to have something so contradictory in their commercial.
Anyway, I am curious to see if there are any other examples of this. Tell me in the comments below!
